Water and Waste Water Analysis Laboratory

Water and Waste Water Analysis Laboratory

Objective:

The primary objective of the Water and Waste Water Analysis Laboratoryis to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to analyze the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of water and wastewater. This includes understanding the significance of various parameters, operating standard laboratory equipment, and interpreting analytical results to assess water quality, evaluate treatment process efficiency, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  • Perform a range of standard teststo determine key water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), and various ion concentrations.
  • Safely and proficiently operatecommon laboratory equipment used in water and wastewater analysis, including spectrophotometers, pH meters.
  • Accurately collect, preserve, and preparewater and wastewater samples for various analyses, adhering to standard protocols.
  • Interpret analytical resultsto evaluate water portability, assess the level of pollution, and determine the effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Identify and quantify sources of errorin analytical procedures and implement quality control measures to ensure data reliability.
  • Apply relevant environmental standards and regulationsto assess the suitability of water for different uses and the discharge quality of treated wastewater.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory recordsand effectively communicate experimental procedures and findings through technical reports.
  • Understand and applysafety protocols and ethical considerations in a water and wastewater testing environment.
