PERI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIEUP WITH MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Morgan State University designated as Maryland's Public Urban University and PERI Institute of Technology, Chennai, India, have forged an international collaboration to provide engineering students with global and cross-cultural educational experiences.
This tie up will include development of a joint curriculum, Faculty & Student Exchange and Research Development and Demonstration Programs. It provides students of PERI Institute of Technology an opportunity to study abroad in their senior year. The tie up will afford students alumni status from both the institutions on completion of their respective institution's degree requirements.
Moreover the collaboration will challenge and equip students from both institutions to solve emerging societal needs across engineering, information technology, energy, clean tech and more.
“We are honoured and excited to be collaborating with Morgan State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), to give engineering students from both institutions a cross- cultural educational experience that will help them uniquely address global needs,” explains Saravanan Periasamy, founder of PERI IT. “We recognize that for students to succeed in a increasingly global economy, they must be equipped with the best engineering education and real-world experiences, and we believe this collaborative venture will afford students unparalleled experiences and equip them for making a global impact.”
“We’re pleased that PERI Institute of Technology–an institution that’s part of a global IT and engineering enterprise and is delivering leading-edge solutions for today’s business and sustainability needs—has joined Morgan State University in meeting the educational needs of an increasingly diverse, global society," notes Eugene DeLoatch, PhD. Dean, School of Engineering, Morgan State University.
The collaborative was the brainchild of Commissioner Harold D.Williams, of the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC). The Maryland PSC is a strong advocate of supplier diversity programs, which helps ensure opportunities for Women Minority Disabled Business Enterprises (WMDBE) in the utility space. That commitment s reflected in a formal Memorandum of Understanding between the PSC and nineteen utilities that do business in Maryland. Williams became aware of PERI institute of Technology while exploring the unique smart grid solutions being offered by PERI Software Solutions, Inc., a certified minority business during a National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) conference. As the Chair of NARUC’s Subcommittee on Utility Minority Access, which promotes inclusion and the nationwide expansion of opportunities for WMDBE firms, Commissioner Williams is keenly aware of the value that WMDBE firms bring to the utilities' procurement supply chain
“When I learned of PERI’s commitment to fostering IT and engineering excellence via PERI Institute of Technology—as part of their workforce management strategy to support designing, manufacturing and integrating intelligent hardware for today’s complex global marketplace—I immediately thought a collaboration with Morgan State University would be a great way to equip students at both universities with the experiences and resources to succeed,” Williams recalls.
One of the first educational endeavours of this global collaborative will be to educate students on clean tech, smart grid and intelligent building solutions. According to Periasamy, this will ideally include the deployment of today’s clean technology solutions, as a learning lab, at Morgan State University. In this way students can leverage PERI’s smart grid expertise, which started in India, as well as their Building Area Network solutions now being deployed in the U.S.
